- This engine house stood on the same site as the one that preceded it [Yeovil old 9], but as increased accommodation was required, and the road at that point was too narrow for the prevailing traffic, the Town Council decided to purchase a cottage adjoining, to widen the road, to extend the length of the engine house, and to add a room over one end of it for the use of the Committee of the Brigade. On 31 October 1884 the Western Gazette reported "On Wednesday afternoon, the new premises erected at the corner of Vicarage Street for the accommodation of the Fire brigade were formally opened. |
